报告摘要：

After a broad introduction into the physics of quantum and frustrated magnetism, I will attempt to review recent efforts in the search of quantum materials with novel properties, centered on a growing family of the rare-earth-based magnets and other related materials with strong spin-orbit-induced interactions. I will describe our efforts to understand the phase diagram of a model that combines paradigmatic geometrical frustration of spins on a triangular lattice and will also attempt to shed light on the properties of the so-called Kitaev materials.

报告人简介：

Alexander Chernyshev教授于1995年在俄罗斯科学院获得博士学位，1996-2002于加拿大皇后大学担任博士后研究员，2002年加入加州大学尔湾分校物理与天文系担任助理教授，2010年晋升为正教授。他目前是美国物理学会（APS）会士、APS 2022年度的杰出审稿人、物理学顶尖期刊Phys. Rev. Lett.凝聚态方向副编辑（DAE），并荣获加州大学卓越教学奖。A. Chernyshev教授在量子磁性理论和强关联电子体系取得了令人瞩目的学术成就，曾在物理学顶尖综述期刊Review of Modern Physics合作撰写综述论文。迄今为止累计发表论文近80篇，包括在Phys. Rev. Lett.、Phys. Rev. X、Nat. Commun.等高端杂志发表论文20余篇。在国际会议和国际学术机构作邀请报告160余次。
